Directional Drilling for Sewers in Escondido, CA
Install or replace sewer lines beneath driveways, mature landscaping, and structures — with no surface excavation. Plumbing Escondido provides horizontal directional drilling for residential and commercial properties throughout Escondido and North San Diego County.
Sewer Installation Without Disruption
Traditional sewer line installation requires open-cut trenching — tearing up driveways, lawns, and plantings along the entire pipe route. Horizontal directional drilling eliminates that disruption entirely. Our equipment steers a drill head underground on a precise guided path, then pulls the new pipe through behind it.
The result: a properly installed sewer line with only two small access points at each end of the bore — and your property surfaces intact.
Ideal Applications for Directional Drilling
The Directional Drilling Process
Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) is a highly technical, multi-stage process. First, we carefully plan the bore path, taking into account the required grade (slope) for proper sewer drainage and avoiding existing underground utilities using locating equipment.
Next, our specialized drill rig bores a small pilot hole from the entry point to the exit point. A built-in sonde transmitter in the drill head sends continuous depth, location, and pitch data to our surface receiver, ensuring the drill stays precisely on course. Once the pilot hole is complete, we attach a reamer to the drill string and pull it back through the hole to enlarge it to the correct diameter.
Finally, we attach the new, continuous length of High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) pipe to the drill string and pull it smoothly into the enlarged hole. HDPE pipe is incredibly strong, flexible, and completely jointless, meaning it is impervious to root intrusion and won't crack under ground movement.
Why Choose Directional Drilling Over Open Trenching?
Cost Guide: Directional Drilling
While the upfront equipment cost of HDD is higher than a backhoe, it frequently saves thousands of dollars by eliminating the need to repair ripped-up concrete, asphalt, and landscaping.
- Directional Drilling (Per Foot, Residential)$60 - $150 / ft
- Setup / Mobilization Fee$500 - $1,500
- Utility Locating & Prep$300 - $600
*The per-foot cost varies based on soil conditions (rocky soil is more difficult) and pipe diameter.
