Our 6-Step Directional Drilling Process
Safety and precision are our top priorities. Every HDD project follows a rigorous engineering and execution protocol.
Utility Locating & Path Planning
Before drilling, we contact 811 DigAlert to mark all existing underground utilities. We then map a safe bore path that maintains the required 1/4-inch per foot gravity slope.
Excavating Access Pits
We dig a small launch pit near the home and a receiving pit at the city connection point in the street. These are the only two holes dug during the entire process.
The Pilot Bore
We launch the drill head underground. A technician walks above ground with a tracking receiver, reading the depth and pitch of the drill head, steering it accurately to the receiving pit.
Back-Reaming
Once the drill head reaches the receiving pit, we remove it and attach a larger "reamer". We pull this reamer back through the pilot hole to enlarge the tunnel to accommodate the new sewer pipe.
Pipe Pullback
We attach the seamless, fusion-welded HDPE pipe to the drill string and smoothly pull it through the newly enlarged underground tunnel into position.
Final Connections & Restoration
We connect the new HDPE pipe to the house and city main, perform a final camera inspection, pass city inspection, and backfill the two access pits.
